Naples is preparing to celebrate its 2500 years of history with a program full of events , which will accompany citizens and visitors throughout 2025. The initiative, called “Napoli Millenaria” , is promoted by the Municipality of Naples in collaboration with over 80 cultural institutions and will transform the city into a large widespread stage , where tradition, innovation and creativity will merge in a journey between the past and the future.
The event and the objectives
“Napoli Millenaria” aims to enhance the artistic and identity heritage of the city , involving museums, theaters, institutions and public spaces . The program includes a series of theater shows, concerts, exhibitions and artistic performances , designed to bring the public closer to the history and culture of Naples in an accessible and engaging way.
The program of main events
🎭 March 25, 2025 – Teatro di San Carlo
Inaugural event with the screening of “Su il sipario” and the speech of the De Filippo family .
🎨 March 3, 2025 – Royal Palace
Artistic lighting of the facade and guided tours for the event “King of Light: centuries of history” .
🎭 From April 17 to December 28, 2025 – The Mile of Memory
A city tour through archive documents, exhibitions, guided tours and concerts.
🎶 June 21, 2025 – APP Sirena
Napoli becomes an open-air jukebox : an app tells the musical history of the city with a sound journey between Naples, Paris, Buenos Aires and New York.
🎬 April 2025 – Milan Triennale
Debut of the documentary film “VELE” , dedicated to the history and transformation of the Vele di Scampia , with a screening following the Architecture Biennale .
🎭 October 2025 – Teatro di San Carlo
New production of “Assunta Spina” , a contemporary reinterpretation of Salvatore Di Giacomo ‘s work.
🎻 9-12 October 2025 – Teatro di San Carlo
“Enrico Caruso” International Opera Competition , with artists and musical institutions from all over the world.
🎶 12-14 December 2025 – Teatro di San Carlo
World premiere of “Partenope” , a new musical work by Ennio Morricone , accompanied by an artistic installation by Vanessa Beecroft .
🎉 From December 21, 2025 to January 6, 2026 – “Happy Birthday Neapolis”
Final event with special events throughout the city, officially closing the celebrations with exhibitions, concerts and traveling shows .

The celebrations will start on March 25, 2025 and will end on January 6, 2026 , offering a 12-month long cultural journey between Naples’ glorious past and its projection into the future .
